Islas Espiritu Santo and Partida These guys have known each other since college, and David Rothenberg puts a trip together every other year for the gang. We had a fantastic time together fishing from the brand new Prowlers and eating Alvaro's great food and drinks. They say are coming back. The Pacific Bonito were more prevalent this time than Black skipjack-the usual Baja Sleigh ride. The pargo, cabrilla and triggers were abundant also. I saw some good fish landed. On this trip the large catch trophy (which I haven't seen but understand it is called the "Woody") goes to Charles Sardou, who trailed a Tux Sardina w/ Tails behind his Crocodile and got a great ride from a 19 pound Pacific Jack Crevalle. After a quick weigh in on the Boga it was revived and released. Next year I think we will have a few more souls saved and there will be more long rods on board. A few of us practiced our fly casting in between fishing sessions. And several were inspired at their catch rates when using a fly, instead of a lure.A great group- I hope they return to the island with me soon. The pictures below from left to right: Isla Espiritu Santo from the air showing all it's deep coves, lagoons and islets.
The ride to our next fishing spot. Dave with a Pacific Bonito on the northern tip of Partida.
A parrot fish lunching on coral.
A Dog Snapper convention the likes of which I have never seen- gathering at Islotes. Cruising the floor below them are a couple of grouper that looked to be over 100 pounds.
Dave lands a beautiful Cabrilla.
Scott lands a flag Cabrilla of very unusual size.
Espiritu Santo has amazing volcanic tuffs-this one is compressed ash worn into curtain and waterfall shapes by eons of waves. And a good trigger. They really know how to use that broad body to dog you.
Charles and his big Trevally-nice catch dude!
Jerry shows off the business end of a cabrilla.
Trip patron and flyfisher David Rothenberg helps release black skipjack and then shows that a fly rod does it even better.
Back in La Paz the boys hit the Dulceria (candy store) for the kids back home. Cruisin the Malecon in the back of a truck.
